Creating your first listing on Amazon can be equally exciting and scary. You have worked so hard on your product, and it is now time for you to lay the foundation to sell that product on Amazon.com.

We have put together a comprehensive guide that includes the detailed process of creating your first listing on Amazon, along with some tips of tricks to avoid issues now and later down the road.

Before starting be sure to have the below information on hand:

  • Product Title
  • Product Bullet Points
  • Product Description
  • All Measurements and Weights

Last year Amazon started focusing efforts on listing quality and accuracy. This has not changed for this year, and they have made it increasingly difficult to change listing attributes after the fact.

Do not add temporary information to your listing during the initial creation. Changing the information within the listing could be challenging later. It is best to ensure the initial information you enter is accurate the first time.

With that out of the way, let’s get right into it.

Log in to your Amazon Seller Central account.

At the top left of the screen select the menu, highlight “Catalog” and then click on “Add Products”.

This will navigate you directly to the Amazon Listing Catalog.

Since you are selling a brand-new product, select, “I’m adding a product not sold on Amazon”.

You will now need to categorize your product. To do this you can either navigate through the different categories or search for your specific product.

In this example we have searched for our specific product by using the keywords Fidget Spinner.

As you will see Amazon will now give you recommended categories to list your new product under. Select the appropriate category for you. If the intended category does not appear, you can of course search through the categories manually to find your appropriate category.

Be sure to categorize your product appropriately. Adding your product to the incorrect category could dramatically influence your sales; being careful during this step is extremely important.

Once your product is categorized it is time to start adding in the vital information required to create the Amazon listing.

Under product identify adding your product ID, product name and Brand name. Once the appropriate information is filled in, you will notice that you are able to move onto the next step.

Be sure to use product identifiers from trusted sources like GS1. Adding nonofficial product identifiers can come back to haunt you years from now, so it is a smart choice to not cut a corner during this step.

Next it is time to move onto the Vital Info portion of listing creation. This specific portion of the Amazon catalog can be daunting to fill in. Take it line by line and ensure you fill in accurate information.

Be sure to be accurate because changing these fields in the future could be problematic. Accuracy is key here, do not rush this step.

Now it is time to fill in your description and bullet points. Your product information should be informative, factual, and fun.

Be sure to be honest about your products Cpsia Warning. If it poses a choking hazard, do select that from the drop-down menu. Not stating that accurately during the listing creation process could hurt someone. Be sure you are extra careful during this step.

Upload your images via the image upload section. Be sure your images comply with Amazons image policy when doing so.

Some quick tips be sure your main image is on a 100% white background and the product takes up at least 80% of the usable area. The image sizing should be 2000×2000.

Next, you will be adding information about your offer. This information includes your seller SKU, your price, the item condition and of course your fulfillment method.

Do keep in mind that all of this information can be easily changed, including the fulfillment method but the SKU cannot be changed after creating the listing. Be sure you enter an accurate SKU.

Finally, fill in your keywords via the Keywords section. Once complete simply click “Save and finish”.

Once your product listing has been approved by Amazon, it will be visible to customers and available for purchase. Remember to keep your product listing up-to-date and accurate to ensure a positive customer experience.

We do hope this guide is helpful. If you found it helpful, feel free to share this guide with your friends.
